You would think there’s nothing left to say about Lucifer’s fall, but as always GM makes the Mystery, pathos, and horror behind this familiar tale shine black and new. Her harrowing dream-sepulchral demongelic voice paired with Thomas Bel’s eerie, droning guitar give this release a chilling, haunted ache. And only GM could make a hurdy-gurdy’s drone sound this creepy and possessed: like a subliminal scream expressing such profound agony that it sets the world’s teeth on edge for eternity. Dave Aftandilian
Mesmerizing and wonderfully disorienting take on a familiar biblical story. I particularly love the buzzing drones on Kane’s side, slowly building inside his head, stoking a madness that results in horror. Yet when the voice appears it is like that of a dark angel, understanding what it is to be a flawed human, holding Kane’s hand even as it drips with his brother’s blood. In the end the project reveals two opposed yet complementary aspects of the religious impulse: to obey, and to resist. Dave Aftandilian
Jordan Vauvert
